The Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification was a foundational certification that focused on networking fundamentals. It was designed to validate the skills needed for entry-level network support positions and to serve as a stepping stone for more advanced Cisco certifications, such as the CCNA.

The CCENT certification covered topics such as:

  1. Network fundamentals
  2. LAN switching technologies
  3. Routing technologies
  4. Infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP)
  5. Infrastructure maintenance

CCENT was typically achieved by passing the ICND1 (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1) exam (100-105), which was one of the two exams required for the CCNA certification. However, Cisco made changes to its certification program in 2020, retiring the CCENT certification along with the ICND1 exam.
