VXLAN header format:

  1. VXLAN Network Identifier (VNI):

    • Length: 24 bits
    • Purpose: The VNI is used to identify the VXLAN segment or virtual network to which the encapsulated Ethernet frame belongs. It enables the segmentation and isolation of traffic between different VXLAN segments within the same physical network infrastructure.
  2. Reserved Bits:

    • Length: 8 bits
    • Purpose: Reserved for future use. These bits are currently unused and must be set to zero.
  3. VXLAN Header Flags:

    • Length: 8 bits
    • Purpose: The VXLAN header flags field contains various flags that control VXLAN tunnel behavior, such as enabling multicast replication, indicating that the frame is a multicast frame, or indicating that the frame is a VXLAN GPE (Generic Protocol Extension) frame.
  4. Reserved Bits:

    • Length: 24 bits
    • Purpose: Reserved for future use. These bits are currently unused and must be set to zero.
