There are 23 provinces in China. Each province has its own administrative structure:
- Anhui
- Beijing (Municipality directly under the central government)
- Chongqing (Municipality directly under the central government)
- Fujian
- Gansu
- Guangdong
- Guizhou
- Hainan
- Hebei
- Heilongjiang
- Henan
- Hubei
- Hunan
- Jiangsu
- Jiangxi
- Jilin
- Liaoning
- Qinghai
- Shaanxi
- Shandong
- Shanghai (Municipality directly under the central government)
- Shanxi
- Sichuan
- Taiwan (Claimed by China as a province but operates as a separate country with its own government and administration)
- Tianjin (Municipality directly under the central government)
- Xinjiang
- Xizang (Tibet)
- Yunnan
- Zhejiang
2. Autonomous Regions:
China has five autonomous regions that have a degree of administrative independence and are home to ethnic minority groups:
- Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region
- Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
- Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region
- Tibet Autonomous Region (Xizang)
- Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region
3. Municipalities:
There are four direct-controlled municipalities that are equivalent to provinces in terms of administrative status. They are directly governed by the central government:
- Beijing
- Chongqing
- Shanghai
- Tianjin
4. Special Administrative Regions (SARs):
These regions have a high degree of autonomy and are governed under the principle of "one country, two systems":
- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR)
- Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR)
